Handwoven Wall Art
Everything begins with the Warp, the vertical strings stretched tightly over a loom. The artist then weaves the Weft (horizontal fibers) through them. In these specific pieces, the "ground" or background is typically a flat-weave cotton or wool that provides a sturdy base for the heavier decorative elements. Once the weaving is complete, the warp threads are cut from the loom and hand-tied to a natural wooden dowel. This ensures the weight of the heavy fibers is distributed evenly, allowing the art to hang straight and maintain its shape over time.
